As a resident physician, Dr. Ted Higgins served a three-month surgical elective at Hospital Albert Schweitzer in Haiti where he was mentored by Dr. William Larimer Mellon. The experience proved pivotal for Dr. Higgins, the founder of the Higgins Brothers Surgicenter for Hope, located in Fonds-Parisien, Haiti.
Their mission is to address the critical shortage of surgical facilities in Haiti, to train surgeons and medical staff through the volunteer efforts of surgeons and others, and to raise financial resources to develop a long-term solution.
